Founded in 2005, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Inc. is an organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. Veterans get together and make fishing flies for fishing or go for a weekend fly fishing trip where they can get together and enjoy nature and each other’s company. Typically, from April through October the veterans will get together once a month to go fishing, and from November to March the group will get together to tie flies. When the group isn’t getting together for their casual outings, there is more competitive outings where the participants compete for a variety of prizes. A typical weekend fishing retreat includes 30-35 participants, but the numbers also increase as sometimes veterans in rehab will come as part of their therapy.

Culligan of Central Indiana got involved because a staff member’s husband is a United States veteran and a member of the organization. Culligan of Central Indiana saw it as a great way to give back to those who have not only made a big impact on the local community but also our country.

Elmer Parks, Owner of Culligan of Central Indiana, said, “This is a special organization which allows veterans to come together and share their love of fly fishing. It’s a special time when they can enjoy nature and clear their minds of any worries.  We are happy to support them.”
